Cancun Submarine Tour: Dive without getting wet!

When the ocean calls, dive right in…

Atlantis: Submarine Tour in CancunCancun submarine tours helped me to finally fulfill a dream I’d had since I was a kid. I will never forget it. I was about 7 years old and the first time I ever saw a submarine was at Disneyland. I wanted to ride it so badly. The water in the attraction was so blue it looked almost unreal. The yellow submarines drifting beneath the surface called to me. They spoke of adventure and excitement to thrill my young heart.

Unfortunately, upon seeing the line which wound around for what looked like miles and taking into consideration the absolute lack of excitement shared by my other five siblings my mom decided that we just didn’t have room in our amusement park schedule to ride this particular attraction. I was crushed and the memory has stuck with me for years.

Another Chance at a Dream

My first trip to Cancun was a much anticipated event. I knew many of the days we had filled with plans, but we also left room in our itinerary to allow for spontaneity. This was one of the best things we could have ever done. When we got to our hotel and began to learn our way around, the waiters, shop keepers and others were so helpful and suggested a number of fun and little known or uncommon activities.

On one such occasion our waiter mentioned submarines. My ears immediately perked up. I wanted to ride in a submarine and I also wanted to experience the deep waters but I am not a diver. This sounded perfect.

And Down We Go

We booked our Cancun submarine tour the next day. I had a hard time waiting because I just wanted to go so badly, but the anticipation was part of the fun. When we went to board the vessel there was some confusion because I couldn’t understand their English and I don’t speak almost any Spanish. It all worked out in the end, and that was the only real hiccup.

I saw so many animals. Some you’d expect like the many brightly colored fishes and others that were more of a treat. My favorites were the sea turtles. I guess they are fairly common, but for me it was a Kodak kind of moment when the giant sea turtle swam into sight. It stayed by the submarine for about five minutes. I think it was curious but whether it was or not everyone got a really good view.

I saw so much, and one of the best parts was the little children I saw on board. It was wonderful that I had finally fulfilled my childhood dream, and I am certain it was better than the amusement park ride would have been, right alongside these little ones! We all shared in the feelings of childlike wonder at the magic of being under the sea.
